Hardin Soy Candles:

"I now own the bookstore I loved as a child"

We sell used books, audio books and DVD’s.  We also have a gift shop that sells soy candles, melts, bath bombs, literary bookmarks, key chains, necklaces, wish bracelets and tons more!
We offer community services and give away many books to community nursing homes, food pantries, and schools.
We stock existing Little Free Libraries as well as our very own Little Free Library at the Peoria Carver Center.

We are a drop off point for Operation Bundle Up – a local group that gives gently used and new winter coats and gear to local students.

We at Book Rack Used Books strive to be more than just a local bookstore. We want to be a vital, contributing part of the community. We want to make a difference -- and together, we can do that!

"I now own the bookstore I loved as a child"

When I was 12 years old, I shopped at a local used bookstore called "The Book Rack". It is on the corners of Lake and Knoxville in Peoria, IL. It was owned by a nice lady named Pat Leary, who was the 2nd owner of The Book Rack.

I frequented The Book Rack every Saturday for several years. I loved The Book Rack! I decided that I was going to own it one day and expand the store into a huge enterprise.

I began collecting paperbacks and filling my closet with them. Soon the books over took the closet, forcing my clothes out onto the floor of my bedroom. That is when my mother noticed and made me sell all of my books at the next garage sale!

Fast forward many, many years (over 30) and I bought The Book Rack in 2016!

I renamed the store "Book Rack Used Books" and created a new logo for it.  My goal is to provide affordable reading for everyone!

In November 2018, I expanded the store another 1200 square ft and added a literary gift shop.

In March 2019, I started a non-profit arm of the store called Book Rack Literacy Foundation, Inc.  The goal of the foundation is to raise literacy rates in our community by connecting people with books, especially the children in our public school system.

"You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child."

~ Dr. Seuss

BR's Little Free Library

"Give a child a book and you change the word. In a way, even the universe." - Neil deGrasse Tyson

Know why I am so happy in this picture? Because a dream to put up mass amounts of Little Free Libraries in my community happened and we are so excited to be a part of it!

Little Free Libraries are mini houses (as pictured) for books available to anyone! They are placed in different neighborhoods, schools, and other areas to allow access to books for EVERYONE!

If you have gently used kids and young adult books you would like to donate for the Little Free Libraries, please drop them off at Book Rack Used Books in Peoria. We have a huge storage area to keep them in and use as the LFL boxes need them.

Thank you all for your support. We couldn’t do it without you!!
